About

J. Harvey Fowble, the man who designed and built most of the best business buildings in Sykesville, as well as several homes, built this beautiful three-story home in the Queen Anne style for his family in 1906.

Somehow Fowble ran into financial difficulties, and the home was taken away from him, and sold off by trustees to pay down Fowble's debts in March of 1914.

The Sykesville Herald reported the sale as follows:

“The sale of the Fowble personal property and real estate took place as advertised on Saturday. There was a good attendance and bidding was lively. The fine dwelling was purchased by Elmer Jenkins for $3900. It is one of the finest homes in Sykesville and cost much more than the selling price to build. The trustees will now proceed to close up the matter growing out of Mr. Fowble's unfortunate financial difficulty.”

Today it's the Inn at Norwood.
